New Micro-Proximity Switch and World’s Smallest Magnetic Reed Switch

Cincinnati, OH – October 8, 2010 – Standex Electronics introduces some big innovations wrapped in small packages during Electronica 2010 in Munich, November 9-12. Among the innovations featured in stand #432 in Hall A2 will be the R12575 micro-proximity switch which is ideal for use in non-contact position sensing in very small spaces – and the world’s smallest magnetic reed switch, the GR150 magnetic reed switch which measures just 3.7 mm. In addition to small size, these products provide unparalleled sensitivity – making them ideal for use in consumer electronics, appliances, medical devices and equipment, security products, industrial control applications and more.

GR150 Magnetic Reed Switch is the World’s Smallest

With a magnetic sensitivity of 2-10 Ampere Turns (AT), typical operating time of 0.2 milliseconds (typical) and a release time of 0.1 milliseconds (typical) this professional grade ultra miniature reed switch is ideal for applications such as within hearing aids, in pill cams, flip or slide phones, and more.

Designed for applications where the available magnetic field is extremely low and/or the space limitations are a major design factor, the GR150 functions as a non-contact position sensor. It features PGM alloy contacts and has a power rating of 1 VA maximum. A switching current (Max) of 0.05 Amp, DC is standard, as is a carry current rating (max) of 0.5 Amp, DC. Boasting an operating range of -40°C to +125°C, the GR150 is well suited for use wherever small size and sensitivity are required for non-contact position sensing applications.

New R12575 Micro-Proximity Switch Fits In Small Footprint

Built around the proven Standex GR200 ultra small magnetic reed switch, the R12575 measures just 9.63 mm in length and 2.49 mm in diameter, yet provides unparalleled sensitivity and performance. These new micro-proximity switches are ideal for a variety of applications where size reduction is required without sacrificing performance. Typical applications include security systems, safe applications, and applications where the equipment design leaves little space for the proximity sensor.

The R12575 is well suited for applications where the magnetic field is very low and where space limitations are a major design factor. There is no power draw in the off state, an important consideration for battery driven applications. Lead length and termination can be customized for specific customer specifications.

In addition to a small footprint and tight sensitivity range with three standard sensitivity ranges available, the R12575 series is responsive – with a typical operating time of 0.2 milliseconds, and release time of 0.1 milliseconds (typical). The R12575 has a power rating of 3 VA maximum and will switch 0.1 Amp. DC (Max) with a carry current rating of 0.5 Amp. DC. Switching voltage is 50 VDC (Max.). Boasting an operating range of -40°C to +125°C, they are well suited for use wherever small size and sensitivity are required for non-contact position sensing applications.

“These two new products meet the needs of design engineers worldwide as they strive to reduce the size and increase the features of products they are working on” said Tom Gould, Vice President, Standex Electronics. “And with our global footprint we can manufacture close to where the products will be assembled, simplifying global logistics and reducing transit time.”
