Aerospace Planar Transformer for Switch-Mode Power Supplies

In this Planar Transformer mini case study, we discuss how we partnered with an aerospace customer, delivering a coupled hybrid aerospace solution that integrated a standard planar transformer with an inductor. We solved the customer's challenge of decreasing unit costs while saving design space and improving overall performance with the added benefit of reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI).

A planar transformer, the primary component used in switch-mode power supplies, offers volumetric efficiency and a lower profile over traditional wire-wound transformers because it uses printed circuit boards (PCB) for its turns.
